The SYNC Synergy application offers numerous options for enhancing usability and performance. Advanced options include bandwidth throttling, utilization of LAN for SYNC data, selectively syncing folders to an agent, automatic locking of Office documents, and remote browsing limits.
To access these sophisticated features, right-click on the SYNC system tray icon and select Properties.
NOTE: If you are running a custom-branded version of SYNC, your icon and name may differ.
Changing bandwidth utilization:
NOTE: Speeds in this section are listed as KiloBytes, not Kilobits. These settings may be overwritten by your SYNC administrator.
Enabling LAN Sync capability:
LAN Sync allows systems at the same phyiscal location to discover each other and eliminate multiple downloads/uploads to/from the SYNC Synergy service. It is recommended if multiple systems are together on a LAN and external bandwidth is limited. It is not recommended for systems that move outside the LAN or go offline frequently (i.e. laptops).
Enabling Selective Sync:
Selective Sync can be a great tool to limit how much information is stored on a local drive. It has no effect on limiting data available through the web portal.
Enable Auto Locking:
Auto Locking helps ensure that Word and Excel files in use cannot be accessed for writing by two users simultaneously. It is only supported on the PC version of the agent currently.
NOTE: The Auto Locking feature only works if an agent is online since the locking must update back to the central storage system. This feature must also first be enabled by your SYNC administrator.
The Privacy option makes it imossible for remote admins to browse through--and therefore map--local content. It is recommended in certain compliance situations.
